Am I a bad person to ask Why?

in the light of thinking that i am a person of reason, having a measure of good sense, and not wanting to go against the flow of the main stream, i now look back and wonder "why did it take me 40 years to wake up and smell the roses" about the organization?

when the big fiasco, and i mean big fiasco, of 1975 came and went, didn't i know down deep that i had been chasing "parked cars" spiritually?

with my spiritual nose bleeding i just hung in there with the rest and didn't make a fuss.

its the question i think we all ask ourselves at one point or another. how could i be so !%*&in' stupid for those years!? it just goes to show the power of a super-controlling cult that preaches eternal life on a paradise earth where everyone smiles all the time and carries fruit baskets around. And as a kid, i thought it would be really cool to frolic with Lions and Tigers. As an adult i realize that big cats are designed for killing stuff ... and will never, EVER, get through their days munching grass.

we were all stupid. hopeful though, almost desperately so ... that no matter how improbable it all seemed ....

that all world governments would crumble and all religions were doomed to death when god wipes out everyone on the planet (except us) ...

all the wise thinkers on the planet were doomed too, because with all their book 'learnin' ... they were too dumb to be JWs ...

we held on to the notion, "Wouldn't it be wonderful!" Plus ... everyone else believed it. People we looked up to. So there. That was it. Don't feel bad Rock ... at least you woke up.

what's up with you? You seem a little bitter and angry. Instead of asking Rock what he's done to make up for all those he innocently lured into dubdom, why don't you tell us what you're doing ... beside saying we should have known that is?

the love you had at first?

i have been so sadend by finding this site and wanted you all to know that the organization is indeed a loving one with only your best interests at heart...but i'm sure, if you look deep within your hearts you already know this to be true...dont you?.

if you search your inamost thoughts and feelings and put away your debeauched/immoral life style ( because if you are truly honest with yourselves, guilt is the reason you needed to distance yourselves from righteousness) and come back to the truth you will see that only kind, loving and overwhelming compassion has always been at the forefront of the wtbts and that although you may feel contentment in a (deluded sort of way) you would have a real happiness within the true christian organization...as your former bible trained concience must know... all others that profess to be 'christian' are satanicly influenced even though they may appear to do good/kind things....how else would the last days of satans system be?.

so i urge all the 'lost sheep' to 'find the love you had at first' and return to the loving compasionate embrace of the organization....you know this makes sense!!!!

it took a decade after leaving the dubs at 19 to stop looking over my shoulder ...because i still believed there was a fiery mallet with my name on it. once i'd decided that life-long belief was a little idiotic, i adopted the Agnostic stance on the matter.

I don't know. And you don't either.

it felt safe, like hedging my bets. i guessed that if i ever did have to account for my life, any deity with half a brain would understand when i said i just didn't want to back the wrong horse, so to speak.

but when i joined this group and saw AlmostAtheist's screename, i realized that i'd been drifting in that direction for quite some time myself.

the truth is ... no god of love would allow such atrocites. SLAVERY (all because someone molested Noah's old a$$!)... that's always been a burr in my boxers, and at the hands of Christians to boot, followers of the big JC. and the JW stance on all this is he's proving a point? Okay ... we get it ... we got it a LOOOOOOOOOONG time ago. I think that paradise is wee bit overdue.

yeah ... i get pissed too.

got pissed the other day watchin the news and somebody's three year old fell from a tenth story window. then you see the distaught crowd and the news cameras and the inevitable weak comment, "He's with god." yeah, well, if god wanted him ... couldn't he come up with a better form of acquisition than plunging a toddler to his death?

from my front row seat on 9/11 ... watching people fall ... yeah, that was the birth of my atheism. i've come to believe that RELIGION itself IS THE DEVIL.

unless your heavily medicated, you can't help but to get pissed at stuff. but what i try to do is extract as much joy out of each day as possible. focus on the beauty of life and not the ugly.

i know, it sounds almost like a platitude ... and i guess it is.

but it works ... and it keeps me sane.

it's a beautiful sunny day in Jersey City. i'm gonna have coffee and take my three dogs to the park.

yeah, although a lot of the others are appropriate too ... i'd say 'stunted' is the first thing that comes to mind. socially, financially, emotionally .....

its like keeping a rather large breed tropical fish .... from a tiny baby ... in a small tank. it won't grow, it'll age but it won't grow. and even if you released in into the wild, it will grow, but never to its former potential.

keeping the world at arms length is awful for a child ... of all the things that make me angry about my JW formative years, this is the one that most affects me to this very day. it's why i'm such a loner and, sometimes, a total social misfit.

yeah, i've grown. and i'm still growing, but the damage is done.

What Have You Learned From This Site?

they've learned so much in so short of time.....have you been helped by this site and other similar ones here on the internet?

I've learned that 20 years after 'fading away' how wounded I've been all along. This site is blessed therapy.

I've also learned that other have been much more wounded ... and I'm grateful for this site, if only to help the recently freed know that there is life (A HAPPY LIFE) after the dubs ....

The pope

the pope was admitted to hospital and on the national tv (rai) they were saying that he has an entire apartment right in the h just for himself, not only that but the room just below was emptied just to avoid noise for him.

unbelivable!

recently a man in italy died because the ambulance could not find a bed for him in a hospital so by the time they arrived to the one bed that was available 200kms away he was dead.

Yeah, the POPE and all the reverence given him, always gave me the giggles. Giggles without any real humor. All these Catholic school closing of late ... I thought the Catholic church was loaded? I guess their spending all that money on the Pope Mobile entourage, his hospital 'apartment' and top-secret do-dads that prop him up and appear animated when he gives those unintelligable little lectures.

Religious relics ... gotta love 'em.

this is my first forum post though i've been out here reading yours for a while.

i didn't know how to post my bio.

i became a jdub at the age of 16. i had a child out-of-wedlock who was 1 year old at the time and i was searching for answers - i wanted my son to have a future and the one the witnesses portrayed was better than anything i'd ever heard!

I slowly began to awaken from my spiritual sleep when the King of the North prophecy was revised. I was stunned to say the least. Then, college education was OK (as long as you were going to be a pioneer - how stupid is that!), then - OMG - What the hell was that 'generation' twist all about??? I didn't even try to swallow that one. That was it for me.

and congrats on going over the wall. escape is good ... and fortunately, they don't put up any WANTED posters.

i've been gone for twenty years ... but my mom keeps 'placing' all the literature with me (i thank her kindly, then put it in the trash) ... still, I don't know about this discrepancy in dub rhetoric. and what 'generation twist'?
